Episode 38 of the Doctor Who: Alhambra Podcast

In this episode of the Alhambra Podcast, the trio of Brett (@Mavic_Chen) and Liam (@djNezumi) and Legeon (@legeonhenderson) reunite for a unique  and an amazingly fun podcast.  People were talked over, voices were loud, agreements were not made across the board, but we think you'll agree, this is a great episode of the Alhambra Podcast.

We start and stop the podcast with Doctor Who and Big Finish news, thanks to www.doctorwhonews.net for the up to date DW news! We discuss the revealed titles and authors for series 10 of the new series of Doctor Who.  Then we discuss Adric's return for 2017 and the reveal of Big Finish's Novel Adaption of Cold Fusion, which will feature the 5th Doctor, Nyssa, Tegan, Adric, 7th Doctor, Chris Cwej, and Ross Forester.  We transition to possible adaptations like Lungbarrow, but continuity of the Virgin range is brought up.  So we use a segment of an interview from Gallifrey Stands Podcast. featuring the Doctor Squee and Paul Cornell.

Thanks to @DoctorSquee for the use of his interview with Paul Cornell. The full episode can be found on the Gallifrey Stands Podcast on PodBeam.  Click the link to listen to the full episode of this fantastic podcast.

Once we finally get to the reviews (around minute 20 or so after our nice on and off topic discussion), we begin with the Big Finish Main Range release #213, The Two Masters, written by John Dorney and starring Geoffrey Beevers and Alex Macqueen as the Master, Sylvester McCoy as the Doctor.  Hijinks ensues during our reviews of the main range as well as the Fourth Doctor Adventure, #5.06, The Trouble With Drax. Next, we move onto the Companion Chronicles series 10, The Second Doctor Volume 1 box set, with four great stories featuring Ben, Polly, Jamie, Victoria, and Zoe.  We compare this release with the First Doctor release from last June.  From Doctor Who to the spin-offs, we first look at Torchwood #2.4, Moving Target, written by Guy Adams and starring Indira Varma as Suzie Costello, followed by Torchwood: Shutdown, starring Jemma Redgrave and Ingrid Oliver, featuring the writing of Matt Fitton and Andrew Smith.  Our non-Doctor Who reviews begin with Liam waxing poetic on Dark Shadows 50th Anniversary full cast audio Blood and Fire and the short story Echoes of the Past. We finish June's Big Finish releases by reviewing series 4 of the classic British TV program, Terry Nation's Survivors, Ken Bentley, Louise Jameson, Christopher Hatherall, and Matt Fitton, pen this amazing four part story, bringing us back to day one of the outbreak, with the point of view of the high class, Parliament and British Prime Minister, then a nice but odd utopian community.

We end with Legeon sharing his new audio love, Spiteful Puppet Productions.  He's previously mentioned the Hood range, however now shares his enjoyment of Robin of Sherwood: The Knights of the Apocalypse.

Stay tuned past the legal stuff to listen to a minute sample of Robin of Sherwood: The Knights of the Apocalypse. Here's a link to Spiteful Puppet productions. https://www.spitefulpuppet.com/shopp.php

Episode 37 of the Doctor Who: Alhambra Podcast

In this episode of the Alhambra Podcast, the trio of Brett (@Mavic_Chen) and Liam (@djNezumi) and Legeon (@legeonhenderson) reunite and bring an enjoyable hour (or more) discussion and sci-fi silliness for the month of May 2016.

We started off the podcast with Doctor Who and Big Finish news, thanks to www.doctorwhonews.net for the up to date DW news! We discuss the news of Big Finish releasing the first full cast audio for Torchwood.  Briefly discuss of the Dark Shadow's 50th Anniversary release. Then we discuss the work of Fantom Films work with previous audio commentaries, The Web of Fear and Enemy of the World, and what they have in store for Doctor Who commentaries on some orphaned episodes.  From one Romana story to another, we discuss Gallifrey: Enemy Lines - Series 8, written by David Llewellyn, and how this one story possibly undoes Intervention Earth from series 7.  Going from one Doctor Who spin-off to another, we look at episode #2.3, Torchwood: Ghost Mission, written by James Goss, featuring Tom Prince as Sergeant Andy Davidson.  Form current releases, we look back at the Cyberman series 1 and 2, as Big Finish has released them in one big box set.  As great as a series as Cyberman is, Liam and Brett do discuss a downer regarding this re-released boxed set.

A BIG thanks to Big Finish for the updated Big Finish app!  It is user friendly, and just amazing!  Between that and Brett finding the Fantom Film audio commentaries for Web of Fear and Enemy of the World, Brett needed some time alone. :)

We change our minds for the audio only release for the month of June, from The Daemons (3rd Doctor Classic Series) to fit in with the Fourth Doctor Adventure release for the month of June, The Trouble with Drax, to the last story in The Key to Time series, The Armageddon Factor (4th Doctor Classic Series).

Audio Only Review list - Spearhead from Space (recorded, post-production needed); The Web Planet (recorded in the month of June); The Armageddon Factor (recorded for June, sometime in June or July); Dragonfire (to be recorded in July); The Power of Kroll (to be recorded in August); finally The Daemons (to be recorded in September).  Please stay tuned for those releases, and further releases when we focus merely on the strength of the story and storytelling, and ignore the visuals.

Episode 36 of the Doctor Who: Alhambra Podcast

In this episode of the Alhambra Podcast, the dynamic duo of Brett (@Mavic_Chen) and Liam (@djNezumi) are joined with Legeon (@legeonhenderson) in hosting this episode of the Alhambra Podcast.

We started off the podcast with Doctor Who and Big Finish news.  First, we react to the news of the 12th Doctor's new companion, Bill, played by actress Pearl Mackie.  Then the reaction to the loss of Blake's 7 lead actor, Gareth Thomas.  Next we look at some of the up and coming Big Finish news, Meddling Monk appearing in two Doctor Who: Short Trip stories.  And of course, off topic discussions do break out...naturally.

Reviewing Big Finish releases, we begin with the Main Range release, #211, And You Will Obey Me, written by Alan Barnes, featuring Peter Davision and Geoffrey Beavers.  A Master discussion does breakout, future feedback would be appreciated (@alhambrapodcast #master).  Next, we move onto the Fourth Doctor Adventure, Legacy of Death, written by Jonathan Morris, part two of a 2 part story (part one was March release, The Paradox Planet).  From there we move on to my favorite non-Main Range, Novel AdaptionsNightshade, written by Mark Gatiss, adapted by Kyle C Szikora.

Then we move on to the Doctor Who Spin-Off ranges, beginning with Jago & Litefoot Series 11, featuring Geoffrey Beavers.  Next we finish off with Torchwood 2.3 Zone: 10, written by David Llewellyn, and featuring Naoko Mori as Toshiko Sato.

Finally, we move into the non-Doctor Who universe, and discuss Blake's Liberator Chronicles Volume 12 and Terrahawks Series 2

In today's podcast, Liam and I look into some of the new Big Finish and Doctor Who news, before we move onto the the reviews for the month of February 2016.

With our reviews, we first look at the Big Finish Main Range release #209, Aquitaine, written by Simon Barnard & Paul Morris (clips from the story to highlight our discussion. Followed by the Fourth Doctor Adventure release #5.02, The Labyrinth of Buda Castle.  Big Finish continues to hit the mark for the month of February with the Short Trips adventure, #6.01, Garden of the Dead, featuring Mark Strickson as Turlough and the narrator.  This adventure slots perfectly in between Mawdryn Undead and Terminus.

Next, we look at the Doctor Who Spin offs, looking at the last episode of the first season of Torchwood, episode #1.06, More Than This, written by Guy Adams.  Following that with the series 3 box set of Vienna, featuring the lovely Chase Masterson.  If you have not experience the spin-off series Vienna, this (and Vienna herself) is one to get to know better!

We finish off the podcast by reviewing the audio book, Carnacki - The Ghost Finder.  Give this audio a try, as it's narrated by everyones favorite Sontaran actor, Dan Starkey. As of the time of this podcast, the first Carancki - The Ghost Finder: The Gateway of the Monster, is free to download.

In episode 33, we begin briefly with the Steven Moffat Doctor Who News, with the news of Matthew Waterhouse reprising his role in the Doctor Who Short Trips later in 2016 and 2017.

Then the podcast begins with your discussion of the Doctor Who releases, starting with Main Range release #208 Waters of Amsterdam by Jonathan Morris. In this release, we discuss the time period where this episode fits, regarding the Classic Doctor Who universe with the Big Finish audios.  Then discuss how Tegan's character is drawn out more than most of the previous audios.  Next, we look at the Fourth Doctor Adventures #5.01 Waves of Destruction by Justin Richards.  In this adventure, Big Finish reunites Tom Baker and Lalla Ward in the TARDIS, something we have only had in three of Big Finishes Novel Adaptations.  Then we look at the Early Adventures, #2.04 The Isos Network by Nicholas Briggs, a great episode that slips perfectly between Invasion and The Krotons.

We then review the non-Doctor Who releases.  First the ITV audio adaptations of The Prisoner written and directed by Nicholas Briggs,  featuring Mark Elstob as Number Six.  Nicholas Briggs wrote three adaptions of the classic series, with one amazing original story, Your Beautiful Village.  Finally, we finish the podcast with a review of The Avengers - Lost Episodes Volume 5,  featuring Anthony Howell (Dr Keel), Julian Wadham (John Steed).

Because of storage space, part 2 of the 2015 Review podcast will not be released until February, as well as our Audio Only podcasts, where we review Spearhead From Space and The Web Planet, so please stay tuned for those.  Not to mention our February 2016 Big Finish podcast review.
